VIET NAM: PARTNERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE PEACE

On 7 June 2019, at the UNGA plenary session, Viet Nam was elected a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term of office. At the outset, on behalf of the Party, State, and People of Viet Nam, allow me to express my heartfelt and profound gratitude to the UN member states for having supported and entrusted Viet Nam with this position. It indicates the recognition and commendation conferred by the international community for Viet Nam’s ignificant role and contribution to the international and regional affairs. It is also an xpression of Viet Nam’s greater standing and prestige among the international community.

Becoming a non-permanent UNSC member bestows an enormous honor on Viet Nam, while reaffirming the veracity of the foreign policy of the Vietnamese Party and State. It simultaneously presents us with a responsibility of great gravity, requiring us to exert our utmost to fulfil the mandate vested upon us by the international community. Viet Nam shall remain steadfast in our pursuit of our foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations, and active international integration. We shall continue to be a reliable friend, partner, and responsible member of the international community.

We shall uphold the UN Charter and the international law and actively contribute to the common efforts of the international community for peace, cooperation and development. It is without any doubt that Viet Nam will successfully fulfil the noble mandate as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and truly be a reliable partner for sustainable peace. Such conviction stems from our renewed determination and energy, our firm belief in the strength and resolve of the entire Party and people. It shall also be bolstered by the effort and well-coordinated collaboration among different levels of authorities and agencies, and the support of the entire Vietnamese people.
