HÀ NỘI — Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc yesterday held a reception for visiting Trade Minister of New Zealand Todd McClay in Hà Nội.

He expressed hope that the visit will contribute to promoting bilateral trade relations between Việt Nam and New Zealand.

The PM suggested the two nations continue their co-ordination to promote common benefits within APEC and other multilateral economic links, towards a successful APEC Ministers Responsible for Trade Meeting slated for May 20-21 in Hà Nội.

He said he hopes that two-way trade will increase in the future, with more investors from New Zealand in Việt Nam.

PM Phúc spoke highly of New Zealand’s respect for the international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in addressing the East Sea (South China Sea)-related issues, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region.

He also thanked the Government of New Zealand for supporting Việt Nam in training human resources and expected that the country will continue its assistance in the field.

For his part, Minister McClay underlined growing bilateral trade between Việt Nam and New Zealand, hoping that it will continue to thrive.

The two sides will reach the goal of doubling bilateral trade value, the guest said, adding that his ministry and Việt Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade need to discuss measures to realise the target.

New Zealand also wishes to contribute to the success of APEC Việt Nam 2017, he affirmed. —VNS
